COVID-19: Airline Rebooking Policies

A quick guide for travelers looking to cancel or reschedule their flights

In response to the pandemic, airlines are adjusting flight schedules and issuing specific guidelines for travelers looking to cancel or reschedule their trips.

Here’s a brief overview of your options for each carrier that currently serves Pittsburgh International Airport, along with links to their travelers advisory pages.

Air Canada

You can make a one-time change without a fee for all new or existing bookings made through July 31, 2020 for original travel between March 1, 2020 and July 31, 2021.

Alaska Air

The Seattle-based carrier is waiving change and cancellation fees. The policies vary for travelers depending on the time of purchase: either on or before Feb. 26, or between Feb. 27 and the end of July.

Allegiant

Allegiant is offering one-time waivers for change fees. Travelers must request a cancellation or change in advance of their flights.

American Airlines

You’re allowed to make a change to your trip once, and the change fee will be waived. You can cancel your trip online and call later when you’re ready to rebook, including Basic Economy tickets.

Keep in mind, you may owe any difference in ticket price when you rebook your trip.

Boutique Air

Boutique, which offers regional flights between Pittsburgh and Johnstown, Pennsylvania, allows travelers to make changes to their flights without an added fee. Policies vary for tickets purchased as non-refundable fares and refundable fares.

British Airways

British Airways offers nonstop service between Pittsburgh and London’s Heathrow International Airport. You can change the dates and destination of your booking without incurring a change fee, although you will need to pay any difference in price (applies to bookings made from 3 March until 31 August 2020 for journeys that are due to have been completed by 30 April 2021).

If you decide you no longer want to travel, you can cancel your booking and British Airways will give you a voucher to the same value for a future booking (applies to bookings made from 3 March until 31 August 2020 for journeys that are due to have been completed by 30 April 2021).

Delta Air Lines

Delta is waiving change fees and will award redeposit fees using eCredits through September 30, 2022, for customers who:

  • Have upcoming travel already booked for March through September 30, 2020 as of April 17, 2020
  • Have existing eCredits or canceled travel from flights in March through September 30, 2020

Tickets purchased between March 1 and July 31, 2020, can also be changed without a change fee or Award redeposit fees for a year from the date you purchased it.

Frontier

To provide you with additional flexibility, bookings made between July 2, 2020 and July 31, 2020 will be permitted a one-time change to travel plans without a fee, when the change is made 7 or more days prior to departure. Changes under this special waiver are subject to the terms and conditions below; additional restrictions may apply.

Additionally, passengers traveling to or from a number of U.S. states with original travel dates through July 31, 2020 will be permitted a one-time change to travel plans without a fee.

JetBlue

The airline is waiving change and cancel fees on all fares for new bookings made by July 31, 2020. If you need to cancel your travel plans, JetBlue will credit the amount in the form of a travel credit that’s valid for 12 months. For changes, fare differences may apply. Terms and conditions vary based on booking dates.

Southwest

The Dallas-based carrier offers the following policy:

If you decide not to travel, as long as you cancel your flight at least 10 minutes before its scheduled departure, the funds used to pay for a nonrefundable ticket (Wanna Get Away® fares) are normally valid for one year from the date of purchase.

However, in recognition of the current travel environment, Southwest is extending the expiration date of some travel funds.

Southern Airways Express

The regional carrier is suspending all change fees through April 15, on all flights, regardless of fare class or date purchased.

Spirit

The airline is waiving change and cancellation fees for guests who book travel by Friday, July 31st, 2020.

United Airlines

As a global airline, United is offering a variety of waivers and guidelines for its travelers that varies depending on the time of booking, date of travel and region of travel.
