If you love aviation—if you really, really love aviation—sooner or later you’re going to end up in Oshkosh, Wis.

For 51 weeks of the year, Oshkosh is a tidy town of 67,000 people on the banks of Lake Winnebago that is probably best known as the birthplace of the iconic Oshkosh B’gosh children’s clothing brand.

But for one week of the year, it becomes the epicenter of all things flight-related during AirVenture, the signature annual event hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association, a global collective of aviation enthusiasts based in Oshkosh.

More than 600,000 people flock to east-central Wisconsin each summer for AirVenture, which transforms sleepy Wittman Regional Airport into the world’s busiest airport.

That’s not hyperbole. During last month’s celebration, the four-runway facility saw about 116 takeoffs and landings per hour over the course of 10 days.

Connor Cummings was there, so it’s a safe bet he loves aviation as much as we do. He sent us this way-cool shot of fireworks exploding over a Lockheed EC-130J Command Solo III that gave us a serious case of FOMO.
