Occasionally we like to open the photography vault and give readers a window into times past.

Aviation is a clear visual reminder of technology’s improvements and progress.

This vintage photo from Jan. 23, 1964, shows Convair aircraft parked on the ramp at Greater Pittsburgh Airport—different models both from Mohawk and Allegheny airlines. Interestingly, Allegheny Airlines would buy Mohawk in 1972.

The old Greater PIT terminal in the background had opened 12 years earlier in 1952 and would operate until the current terminal opened in 1992.

Unfortunately, we don’t know the photographer of this picture, but we can bet he or she enjoyed aviation as much as we do.
