For our photo submission this week, we are shifting gears.

Typically, we write about a cool aircraft (along with an inspirational thought or two). This week, however, we would like to express our appreciation to all the men and women who have sacrificed to defend our country’s freedom.

To honor our veterans and Veterans Day, Connor Ochs shared with us a photo of a Bell AH-1Z Cobra from the U.S. Marine Corps lifting off on a clear fall day from Lancaster Airport in Lancaster, Pa.

The AH-1Z pictured above belongs to HMLA-773, a Marine attack helicopter squadron located at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey. Nicknamed the “Red Dogs,” HMLA-773 lives by its official motto: Mission Accomplished.

The mission of protecting our nation is no small task to accomplish. It not only extends to each member of the Red Dogs, but to the rest of the Marines, Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard and Space Force.

To all Marines, sailors, soldiers, airmen, guardians, Coast Guardsmen and everyone else who has served: Thank you for all you have given.

And finally, thank you, Connor, for sharing this wonderful photo.

Our readers continue to pass along shots of unique aircraft, international airports, historical events, gorgeous views and even family vacation photos for this feature. We love them! Keep them coming—you can click here for submission guidelines.
