The Fourth of July holiday is often a peak travel period in the U.S., one of the busiest times of the year for many airports.

This year, airports across the country expect a much lower turnout than usual as people exercise caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And while we’re dedicated to making the passenger journey as safe and healthy as possible for everyone at Pittsburgh International and Allegheny County airports, we understand we’ll be seeing a lot fewer of you than last Independence Day.

Since that means there will likely be far fewer postcards being sent from Myrtle Beach, Fort Lauderdale and other popular vacation spots, we wanted to offer you these throwback postcards from the airports to send out during your “staycation.”

Dedicated on Sept. 11, 1931, AGC was the third-largest and only hard-surface airport in the country at the time. It served as the primary airport for the Pittsburgh region until Greater Pittsburgh Airport opened in 1952, the predecessor to today’s Pittsburgh International Airport facility.
