Pittsburgh International Airport’s airport therapy dog team unleashed some holiday fun last month on visiting passengers for the first time since the start of the pandemic in March.

Sporting festive costumes, the PIT PAWS pups and their handlers helped spread holiday cheer with a safe and socially distanced parade Dec. 21 throughout the airport’s Airside Terminal.

The airport launched the PIT PAWS (Pups Alleviating Worry and Stress) program in 2017 to provide passengers a warm nuzzle, a comforting pat on the head and a few minutes of relaxation before flying.

Unfortunately, the pups and passengers weren’t able to physically interact due to health and safety precautions, but there were plenty of smiles, waves and enthusiastic greetings.

Due to ongoing efforts to minimize the spread of COVID-19, the program remains on hold at this time.

We hope to welcome the pups back to the terminal for more regular visits in 2021!
