Catching a pre-dawn flight isn’t an appealing option for many travelers. Getting out of bed in the dark, organizing your luggage, making your way to the airport and getting to your gate can require some strong coffee (or other beverage).

However, those hardy souls are occasionally rewarded with stunning moments like the one Jeffrey Peterson captured last week while waiting for his plane to be deiced at PIT before flying to Miami. A sunrise like that makes for an inspirational start to any day.

Susan Buhr and her son took advantage of a clear day in October when canceled classes allowed the two of them to go planespotting at PIT. While he focused his camera on the arrival of a  Cathay Pacific Boeing 777 cargo flight, she focused on him and gave us the very essence of Blue Sky Photos of the Week in one shot.

Our readers continue to pass along shots of unique aircraft, international airports, historical events, gorgeous views and even family vacation photos for this feature. We love them! Keep them coming—you can click here for submission guidelines.

Thanks, Jeffrey and Susan!
