The color blue has a special place in aviation (says the staff of a publication called Blue Sky News).

Fair skies, the best to fly in, come in all shades of blue.

There’s the Blue Angels, the traditional navy blue uniforms of many flight attendants, the overwhelming prevalence of blue interiors in most commercial cabins and, of course, our friends over at JetBlue.

In 2017, they doubled down on the color by creating their “Blueprint” livery, the first special paint job for their E190 fleet. While the airline is renowned for its creative schemes, “Blueprint” is one of its most popular and intricate.

Devin Ruhotina, of Charleston, South Carolina, caught it during a visit to PIT earlier this month. The livery depicts many of the structural elements of an aircraft, but also features almost 50 items brought by travelers the designers imagined being aboard. Can you spot the teddy bear, or the pinata?

Of course, if you look down while in flight, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll see blue: two-thirds of our planet is covered by water.

Craig DeLuca looked out a window on a Spirit flight, saw the deep cerulean waves along the Atlantic Coast of Florida near Fort Lauderdale and took a mesmerizing shot of the ocean, clouds and horizon blending together.
