Crews hoisted a massive white steel beam to the top of Pittsburgh International Airport’s new terminal, marking a pivotal moment in the $1.4 billion construction project.

Regional leaders, airport staff and construction workers got a chance to sign the beam before it was lifted to the roof and connected to another beam to form what will be the roof of the terminal. “Topping out” is a tradition in the construction world that celebrates project progress and the work required to reach that point.

The beam signifies a pivotal step toward opening PIT’s new terminal, Multi-Modal Complex parking structure and roadway enhancements in 2025.
