Thursday marked Icelandair’s first flight between Pittsburgh and Reykjavik, Iceland. Reykjavik is PIT’s second nonstop destination to Europe alongside British Airways’ existing service to London Heathrow, further growing PIT’s transatlantic links.

Icelandair operates Pittsburgh-Reykjavik on a Boeing 737 MAX 8 four times a week between May and October. British Airways flies Pittsburgh-London year-round on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which operates up to six times a week.

This means that through late October, PIT will have nonstop service across the Atlantic seven days a week. Combined, British Airways and Icelandair will offer more than 5,000 monthly transatlantic seats, the most at PIT since 2018.

British Airways and Icelandair use PIT’s Concourse C, which handles the majority of PIT’s international flights. Due to each airline’s schedules overlapping on certain days of the week, British Airways and Icelandair can be seen together, at the same time, on Concourse C every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Thursday’s inaugural flight from Reykjavik was the first time Icelandair united with British Airways on the C concourse. And it didn’t take long for the first photos of this great sight to roll into our submission inbox.

Ryan McManus caught both flights in one shot, with the inaugural Icelandair flight to Reykjavik pushed back from gate C55 as British Airways’ flight from London Heathrow taxis into gate C59 shortly after landing.

Todd Wilson, who was a lucky passenger onboard the inaugural Icelandair departure, snapped a similar photo through the window of the British Airways 787 entering the ramp area next to the Icelandair 737 MAX.

Thanks for sharing the great photos, Ryan and Todd!
