Photos of the Week: Varying Viewpoints

“Attachment constrains our vision so that we are not able to see things from a wider perspective.”

This wise observation is courtesy of the Dalai Lama, a man who knows a thing or two about seeing things from a different angle.

But while we are very attached to Pittsburgh International Airport, for obvious reasons, our affection isn’t the only thing that keeps us from gaining a broader view.

Sometimes it’s just gravity.

So we’re grateful to Tom Reinsel, who flew out of PIT on a gorgeous day last week and captured this aerial view of our terminals on his way to LaGuardia Airport in New York City. An ascending airplane is a great place to get a wider perspective.

The wisest among us will also note that it isn’t always your point of view that affects your perspective. Sometimes it’s just the light in which you view the subject.

Ryan Miller, a ramp agent at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, took this shot of a plane’s underbelly while refueling at night. The glare of a flashing beacon makes all the difference in creating an otherworldly scene.
