As Pittsburgh International Airport opened its new terminal to the public, several airlines also contributed to the economic success of the airport and Greater Pittsburgh region by expanding the air service network in 2025.

Throughout the year, airlines launched new routes, restoring previously served markets and expanding capacity in others in response to strong passenger demand.

The additions from legacy, low-cost and ultra-low-cost carriers reinforced the airport’s goal of serving the region’s origin-and-destination traffic through a competitive, diversified mix of air carriers. New and expanded routes also create jobs, boost tourism and attract business investment by improving connectivity to national and global markets.

Take a look at where airlines added new service from Pittsburgh in 2025.

Allegiant Nonstop to Phoenix

Allegiant Resumes Nonstop Service to Phoenix

On Feb. 7, Allegiant Air launched nonstop service between PIT and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The service marked Allegiant’s return to the Pittsburgh–Phoenix market after a three-year absence, having last served Phoenix via Mesa Gateway Airport from 2021 to 2022.

The launch of the Pittsburgh–Phoenix route coincided with Allegiant’s 10th anniversary serving PIT.

Allegiant became the third airline offering nonstop service between Pittsburgh and Phoenix, joining daily service offered by American Airlines and Southwest Airlines.

The ultra-low-cost carrier launched the route seasonally with twice-weekly flights through early May. Citing strong demand, Allegiant resumed the route with an extended season; flights returned on Oct. 3 and are scheduled to operate through May 18, 2026. Pittsburgh-Phoenix is Allegiant’s longest nonstop route from PIT.

American Nonstop PIT - LAX Inaugural Flight

American Adds Nonstop Service to LA

American Airlines launched daily, year-round nonstop service between PIT and Los Angeles International Airport on April 4.

Last served by American in 2017, the return of its PIT–LAX service strengthened an important business corridor, particularly for the region’s film and television industry, which relies on connectivity between the two cities. Pittsburgh leaders cited the nonstop flight as the removal of a barrier for production companies that support economic growth in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Los Angeles also remains a popular leisure destination, and the route complements expanded service from Breeze Airways to L.A. while adding competition and capacity to the market.

The new flight further reflects Pittsburgh’s growing connectivity to the western U.S. and enhances global access through Los Angeles. American’s schedule allows for convenient onward connections to Hawaii and the South Pacific, including Australia and New Zealand.

With the addition of Los Angeles, Pittsburgh now has nonstop service to all of American’s U.S. hubs, reinforcing the carrier’s position as one of the airport’s largest carriers.

JetBlue Nonstop PIT-JFK

JetBlue Returns to Pittsburgh-New York Market

On May 1, JetBlue began daily service between PIT and New York-JFK, marking its return to the New York City market for the first time since 2013.

JetBlue restored low-cost service to NYC and enhanced travel options for Pittsburgh passengers, particularly with connections to major Caribbean destinations such as San Juan, Punta Cana, Montego Bay, Aruba and Nassau, as well as less common destinations like Turks and Caicos, Barbados and St. Kitts. JetBlue also provides access to additional international destinations through codeshare partners at JFK.

To capitalize on fall travel, JetBlue added a second daily flight between PIT and New York-JFK that operated in the afternoons from September through December. Recently, JetBlue began operating larger aircraft on its morning departure, upgrading from 140-seat Airbus A220-300s to 162-seat Airbus A320s, a bump in capacity on the route.

Breeze - PIT Nonstop to Greenville - Spartanburg NC

Breeze Adds New Service to Greenville-Spartanburg

Also on May 1, Breeze Airways continued its Pittsburgh expansion by launching nonstop service to Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina. Breeze’s twice-weekly service, operated on Airbus A220-300 aircraft, restored nonstop flights between Pittsburgh and upstate South Carolina for the first time since 2004 when US Airways previously served the market.

A growing tourism market with many popular outdoor activities and close to University of Pittsburgh’s NCAA conference rival, Clemson University, Greenville-Spartanburg became Breeze’s 13th destination from PIT—the third most of any carrier at the airport—and the airport’s fifth nonstop destination in the Carolinas, reflecting Pittsburgh’s strong demand to the region.

Breeze initially planned to operate seasonal Greenville-Spartanburg service through late August 2025. Due to demand, however, the airline extended the route’s season through early January. Breeze’s service to Greenville-Spartanburg is scheduled to return in 2026 when nonstop flights resume on May 7.

JetBlue Nonstop Ft. Lauderdale Gate Event

JetBlue Adds Nonstop Flights to Fort Lauderdale

JetBlue continued its growth at PIT this year when it resumed daily, nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 2. This marked JetBlue’s return to the Pittsburgh-Fort Lauderdale route, which it last served from 2014-2019 and 2020-2021.

JetBlue’s Fort Lauderdale service provides another low-cost option to PIT’s second-largest Florida market after Orlando, and bolsters PIT’s strong network to the Sunshine State; in South Florida alone, five different airlines provide nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale, Miami and West Palm Beach from PIT.

The restored route is part of JetBlue’s expansion at both Pittsburgh and Fort Lauderdale. Pittsburgh was part of a multi-city expansion by JetBlue at Fort Lauderdale that included nine new routes, many to the Caribbean and Latin America, further expanding one-stop international connections for Pittsburgh travelers.

In December, JetBlue upgraded its Pittsburgh-Fort Lauderdale service from Airbus A220-300s to its larger Airbus A320s that will provide extra capacity on the route ahead of spring travel.

American Nonstop - Punta Cana

American Adds International Route to Punta Cana

While American Airlines expanded West Coast service by resuming nonstop flights to Los Angeles, it also expanded international flights from Pittsburgh this year. On Dec. 6, American launched seasonal nonstop flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

The Saturday-only service marked the first time in more than a decade that a major network carrier has offered scheduled nonstop flights between Pittsburgh and Punta Cana, which has become one of the Caribbean’s most popular vacation destinations due to its resorts and affordability. American’s Punta Cana service compliments its existing seasonal flights between Pittsburgh and Cancun, Mexico, which resumed in 2023.

American’s Pittsburgh-Punta Cana service will continue to operate on Saturdays through April 4, flown with a mix of Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A321 aircraft.

What’s Ahead in 2026?

New or expanded service by several carriers at PIT is on the way this year.

In May, PIT will welcome its newest airline and destination: Aer Lingus to Dublin. The four-times-weekly service will begin on May 25, operated with Airbus A321LR aircraft. It is Pittsburgh’s first-ever nonstop service to the Emerald Isle. Aer Lingus becomes PIT’s 16th airline and Dublin becomes the airport’s 63rd destination.

There will be a further expansion in international connectivity to Europe when British Airways increases its London Heathrow service to seven days a week beginning March 30 for the peak summer travel period. Icelandair, meanwhile, will resume its seasonal nonstop service to Reykjavik, Iceland, on May 8, the airline’s third season in Pittsburgh since launching service in May 2024.

Between Dublin, London and Reykjavik, PIT’s three nonstop destinations to Europe this summer will be the airport’s most since 2018.

Up north, Air Canada will resume is seasonal nonstop service to Montreal on May 1. Flights will operate daily through Oct. 15. The Montreal route complements Air Canada’s nonstop flights to Toronto, which operates up to twice a day.

Domestically, Southwest Airlines will expand its operations at PIT in 2026. Beginning June 6, Southwest will commence nonstop Saturday-only flights to Destin-Fort Walton Beach, the airline’s 21st destination served from the airport. Southwest will also expand its schedule to Orlando from four daily flights to six and increase its nonstops to San Diego from Saturday-only to four times a week when it resumes in June 2026.
