Mineo’s Pizza House is now open at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), bringing one of Pittsburgh’s most beloved pizza institutions to travelers from around the world.

Located in the main food court next to Marathon Diner, Mineo’s Pizza House will serve its signature hand-tossed pizza, along with other favorites such as hoagies, salads, and a variety of appetizers, giving passengers a true taste of Pittsburgh before takeoff or upon arrival. The concept design reflects the best of their other locations. A bar seating area is incorporated, which will be unique among other concessions in the food court.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Mineo’s Pizza House to our concessions lineup,” said Bryan Dietz, Senior Vice President, Air Service and Commercial Development at PIT. “Sense of place is important at the airport and for decades, Mineo’s has been part of the Pittsburgh community and a local favorite. Bringing this iconic brand to the airport gives travelers another authentic way to experience our city.”

Mineo’s Pizza House was founded in 1958 and is one of the region’s most popular pizza and Italian restaurants. In July 2024, Mineo’s readers of the New York Times submitted it as one of the 15 best pizza places around the world. Locally, Mineo’s is consistently voted “Best Pizza” by readers of Pittsburgh Magazine and Pittsburgh City Paper, just to name a few “Best of” readers’ polls.

“We are excited to finally open at Pittsburgh International Airport,” said Giovanni Mineo III. “For many Pittsburgh residents, Mineo’s is more than pizza – it’s a tradition. Having our products featured at the airport not only offers comfort food for travelers but also highlights the city’s culinary identity to visitors from around the world. We know grandpa is looking down on us excited to see how far his small pizza shop on Murray Ave. has taken off.”

Mineo’s Pizza House joins a growing lineup of locally inspired food concessions that have opened in the past year. The list includes Café Conmigo, Convive Coffee, and a remodeled Marathon Diner. They join other local brands such as Primanti Bros., Penn Brewery, Wiggle Whiskey, Penn Brewery, Local Craft Kitchen & Bar, Marathon Diner and Beercode Kitchen & Bar. As well as national brands Jimmy John’s, Joe & the Juice, Sambazon Acai Bowls and Shake Shack.

The revamped concession offerings are part of the airport’s continued commitment to enhancing the passenger experience with high-quality food, retail, and amenities. The new concessions also reflect passenger feedback from Pittsburgh-based travelers and regional visitors who wanted a variety of respected national brands as well as local favorites.

Mineo’s was founded by John Mineo, an immigrant from a small town in Sicily near Palermo. In 1958, he took a Squirrel Hill streetcar and found an empty storefront on Murray Avenue. That restaurant is still open today, proudly run and operated by the third generation of the Mineo family.

From the original store, Mineo’s has added locations in Pittsburgh’s suburbs, including Mt. Lebanon in the South Hills and Allison Park in the North Hills. The airport location will be the fourth location.
