JetBlue Airways is adding a new first-class seating product to its award-winning onboard service that is anticipated to further increase the number of premium seats offered to travelers from Pittsburgh International Airport.

JetBlue revealed its new domestic first-class seating product on Sept. 1, called BlueFirst, that will be added to all its Airbus A220-300, A320 and A321 aircraft currently equipped in all-economy layouts. JetBlue will add three rows of 12 first-class seats to its A220s and A320s and four rows of 16 first-class seats to its A321s.

Routes and booking availability for BlueFirst will be announced later this year, and retrofits of all aircraft with the new seats are expected to finish by 2028.

BlueFirst is expected to gradually roll out to JetBlue’s A220s and A320s that operate the carrier’s service from Pittsburgh to Boston, Fort Lauderdale and New York-JFK, which will add more premium capacity to three of PIT’s 10 largest, most competitive markets, while still offering its popular high-value, low-cost economy seating options for price-conscious travelers.

In addition to JetBlue, to Boston and New York City, network carriers Delta Air Lines (Boston, New York-JFK and New York-LaGuardia), American Airlines (New York-JFK and New York-LaGuardia) and United Airlines (Newark) also operate multiple daily nonstop flights, all on two-class aircraft, from Pittsburgh. To Fort Lauderdale, Southwest Airlines, which has transformed its low-cost business model to offer extra legroom seating and other premium perks, and ultra-low-cost carrier Allegiant Air, which will introduce first-class style seats on select aircraft in 2027, also offer nonstop service from PIT alongside JetBlue.

As part of PIT’s air service diversification strategy, the airport continually works with airlines to provide the right level of service for the Pittsburgh market, including a competitive mix of premium and budget options offered across numerous airlines for the region’s travelers. Since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, airlines have been investing in more premium seats and larger aircraft with more fare classes at PIT, in line with industry and consumer trends.

JetBlue, which celebrated 20 years of service at PIT in June, has increased its presence in the Pittsburgh market. It resumed daily service to Fort Lauderdale and New York-JFK in 2025 to supplement its Boston service, which operates up to four times a day. Currently, JetBlue’s scheduled seats at PIT are up 24 percent year-over-year, the largest capacity growth of all carriers at the airport.

JetBlue’s Take on First-Class

JetBlue CEO Joanna Geragthy noted that premium demand continues to rise, adding that domestic first-class has become easy to predict and it is time “for a fresh take” from JetBlue that can provide to travelers who want more comfort at good value.

“Customers are increasingly looking for more premium experiences, and BlueFirst gives them an elevated experience that feels distinctly JetBlue, with thoughtful touches, caring service and great value. It’s another way we’re bringing our JetForward strategy to life and giving customers more reasons to choose JetBlue.”

BlueFirst is the latest facet of JetBlue’s JetForward strategy, which includes the recent opening of its BlueHouse premium lounges at New York-JFK and Boston, and further expanding its portfolio of premium products to create more opportunities for JetBlue customers to enjoy an elevated travel experience across its network.

Additionally, BlueFirst serves as an extension from JetBlue’s successful Mint lie-flat business class product, introduced in 2013, exclusive to select transcontinental and transatlantic routes. According to JetBlue, BlueFirst will introduce premium seating on routes not served with Mint.

Citing its recent investments in premium travel, JetBlue earned top rank in Customer Satisfaction among First/Business Class Passengers in JD Power’s 2026 North America Airline Satisfaction Study for the second consecutive year. In addition, JetBlue’s BlueHouse lounge at New York-JFK was recently ranked first for “Best Airport Lounge” in Newsweek’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards.
