The Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2026 schedule offers more than a series of destinations for fans. It provides a timely look at the breadth of Pittsburgh International Airport’s (PIT) air service network — from multiple carriers serving major domestic markets to international connectivity supporting travel to a historic first sporting event in a new market.

With the regular season beginning in just a few days, Steelers fans, known around the world for traveling to games in huge numbers, will travel to six domestic road games and one international matchup in Paris. PIT’s network provides nonstop service to six domestic away games, while its international service and global airline partnerships provide convenient one-stop options to Paris.

The schedule also illustrates the value of a diversified network. Major sporting events can create concentrated periods of demand, while the underlying markets support a mix of business, leisure and visiting-friends-and-relatives traffic throughout the year.

Event Demand Meets Existing Network Strength

The Steelers schedule demonstrates how an airport’s existing network can capture incremental demand generated by major events.

The Sept. 20 game against the New England Patriots, for example, puts a spotlight on PIT’s service to the broader Boston market. Travelers can choose between Delta and JetBlue service to Boston Logan or Breeze service to Providence, creating multiple options based on schedule, fare and final destination.

The Oct. 18 game in Tampa provides another example. Southwest and Breeze serve Tampa International Airport, while Allegiant serves St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport. The presence of multiple carriers and airports gives travelers choices while allowing airlines to compete for demand across a large regional market.

Jacksonville illustrates another opportunity: airlines can respond directly to event-driven demand. With the Steelers playing on Monday Night Football Dec. 14, Allegiant has added a special return flight the following day, creating additional capacity around a concentrated travel period.

International Connectivity Expands the Opportunity

The Oct. 25 Steelers-Saints matchup in Paris represents the most significant international travel opportunity on the schedule.

British Airways’ nonstop service to London Heathrow and Aer Lingus’ nonstop service to Dublin provide gateways to Paris and show the importance of connectivity beyond an airport’s nonstop destinations. (Travelers can also connect to Europe on Icelandair through Reykjavik, although the flight ends for the season on Oct. 18.)

The Paris game also follows the Steelers’ highly visible trip to Dublin in 2025, when the team’s international following demonstrated its ability to generate significant travel interest. Demand to Dublin from Pittsburgh during the game in 2025 increased significantly, up over 160 percent compared to 2024. The return of the Steelers to Europe provides another opportunity to showcase PIT’s international connectivity and the role of airline partnerships in serving global demand.

A Network Built for More Than Football

The Steelers schedule offers a timely illustration of what PIT’s air service network can deliver: multiple carriers, competitive markets, alternative airports and international connectivity that give travelers more options for reaching major destinations.

For airlines, major sporting events are one component of a broader demand picture that includes business travel, leisure, visiting friends and relatives, tourism and international traffic. The ability to support that diverse demand — while providing additional capacity and schedule options when major events occur — is an important part of the value of a well-connected airport and a community willing to travel.

This football season, Steelers fans have plenty of reasons to take to the skies. For PIT and its airline partners, those trips are another demonstration of the connectivity and market reach made possible by the airport’s growing air service network.
