Runners, walkers and aviation enthusiasts will once again have the chance to experience Pittsburgh International Airport from a perspective rarely available to the public.

The FlyBy 5K and 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk presented by CNX Resources returns to PIT’s taxiways at 10 a.m. Sept. 19.

“The FlyBy 5K offers an experience unlike any other on our event calendar, giving runners and walkers the rare chance to be active on the airfield at Pittsburgh International Airport,” said Bob Shooer, P3R board president and interim chief executive officer.

“From the timed 5K to the family-friendly 2-Mile Fun Run/Walk, this event creates a memorable morning for participants of all ages while supporting the important work of the Allegheny County Airport Authority Charitable Foundation.”

Participants can register for the event and learn more through P3R.

Registration for the event — which is on a flat, closed course on PIT taxiways — includes the timed 5K, a race shirt and a finisher’s medal, as well as a post-race party with food, entertainment and Touch-a-Truck with PIT equipment, including vehicles from its Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting department.

The overall course pace requirement is 20-minutes-per-mile for both events. Free parking will be available at the Park N Ride behind Sheetz on University Boulevard with shuttles to the start line area.

P3R, the organization behind the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, is once again the event’s primary host and organizer. In addition to CNX, other sponsors include Pittsburgh International Airport, UPMC Health Plan, FedEx, DICK’S Sporting Goods, Eaton Corporation, Magee-Women’s Research Institute & Foundation and Urban Trail Coffee Company.
