As Pittsburgh International Airport’s new terminal nears completion, its newest concession officially opened Thursday.
Beercode, a gastropub-style restaurant, features specialized beers, with all bartenders possessing Level 1 Cicerone beer training, enabling them to expertly pair the perfect beer with each food option.
The new dining concept from Paradies Lagardère originated in Italy and has only a handful of locations in U.S.-based airports.
“Beercode is known for its dedication to quality, craft local beer, fresh ingredients and the love for supporting local businesses,” Wassim Takriti, Regional Vice President of Dining Operations at Paradies.
On May 30, Beercode held a “soft opening” at PIT to introduce Pittsburgh travelers to the new restaurant, which replaced Bar Symon in the airside terminal. The Aug. 1 grand opening was held to officially mark its launch, with representatives from Paradies and local Pittsburgh restaurants and brewers joining the celebration.
Local beer influencer Day Bracey (@daybracey) attended the public celebration. Bracey founded the Barrel & Flow festival, the first black brew festival in U.S. It has since been voted the #1 brew fest in America two years in a row.
“All of that work is for nothing if we don’t have partners like Beercode who are willing to open up their shelves and their taps in order to carry those products,” Bracey said. “In the city with the best brew festival in the country and in my opinion, the best beer scene in the country, I am extremely excited to have Beercode here as a partner.”
Beercode features five local taps, including four collaborations from Barrel & Flow. This year’s Barrel & Flow festival will be held on Aug. 10 at the Stacks at 3 Crossings, 2975 Railroad Street in Pittsburgh. Tickets are available now.
“I have made it my passion to build this festival and build these relationships so we could change the city for everyone and make this one of the best cities to live in for everyone,” Bracey said.
More new concessions on the way
Beercode will soon be joined by a slew of other new restaurants and stores. Fifteen new concessions will open soon in addition to PIT’s new terminal, and more new concessions are expected to be announced in the weeks ahead.
“The concessions we have planned, like Beercode that we’re celebrating today, really will match the vision and excitement of the new passenger experience at PIT,” Paul Hoback, Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer at PIT, said at the event. “Pittsburgh pioneered the Airport mall concept. And we will make another splash with our new shopping and dining experience as we open the new terminal.”
Located in the Airside Center Core near Concourse C, Beercode is open each day from 4:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. for breakfast, lunch and dinner to all passengers at PIT.
