Pittsburgh International Airport is dedicated to connecting Pittsburgh to the world through 62 nonstop destinations from the West Coast to Europe.
But improving the economic vitality of the region goes beyond business travel.
The latest economic impact report found that PIT helps to generate 148,000 jobs and $29 billion in business revenues in the region. Plus, work on the new terminal created more than 14,000 direct and indirect jobs with an overall economic impact estimated at $2.5 billion.
“The developments we have made through Neighborhood 91 and using that property – and we have a lot of property at the airport – but we are using it to actually improve the economic viability of this whole region,” said Randy Vulakovich, a member of the board of directors of the Allegheny County Airport Authority.
“Think about having an economic development site for manufacturing at an airport. Who does that? Yet here we are and it’s really growing in its success,” added Dawne Hickton, CEO of Cumberland Additive, an advanced manufacturing company located at Neighborhood 91.
Neighborhood 91, the world’s first end-to-end additive manufacturing production campus, is just one way ACAA is using the 8,800-acre PIT campus as an economic development tool. See the video below for more.
