Pittsburgh’s new terminal opening is a chance to showcase the region’s star power, from top business leaders to the arts – and native son Jeff Goldblum is coming home to help lead the way.
Goldblum, originally from the West Homestead suburb of Pittsburgh, will perform at the Oct. 3 gala inside the new terminal along with the Grammy Award-winning Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. The gala is part of a series of events leading up to the opening day later this fall.
“I’m more than thrilled and delighted to be part of this glorious event back in my beloved hometown. What a jazzy dream come true – there’s no place like home!” Goldblum said.
The first Public Trial on Sept. 20 kickstarts the events – where members of the public will test the new terminal’s systems and processes, followed by the gala two weeks later for partners and organizations involved in building the project. The Oct. 11 Community Open House is next, where more than 10,000 members of the public can explore the new terminal. (Registration for the Community Open House is still available and can be found here.)
“The opening of Pittsburgh’s new terminal is an opportunity for this region to showcase its best assets on a global stage across all business sectors. From global Fortune 500 companies to tech start-ups, this region is a business and arts powerhouse, and the new terminal is the front door to that story,” said Pittsburgh International Airport CEO Christina Cassotis. “We’re proud to have both the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Jeff Goldblum perform at the gala as part of our opening series of events.”

Goldblum, who most recently starred in “Wicked” and its upcoming sequel, will perform with both the PSO and his own Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. Goldblum graduated from the former West Mifflin North High School in 1970 and launched the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra 30 years ago, named for a family friend who played bridge with his parents while growing up in the region.
Since then, he and his band have performed for audiences throughout the United States and all over the world playing contemporary arrangements of classic jazz and American Songbook standards.
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, led by Music Director Manfred Honeck, is celebrated worldwide for its artistry, innovation and impact. With a history of Grammy-winning recordings, community engagement and performances at Carnegie Hall and across the globe, the PSO is acclaimed for its domestic and international touring, which begins, each time, at Pittsburgh International Airport.
“We’re honored to be part of this historical celebration for our city,” said Melia Tourangeau, President & CEO of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. “To share the stage with Jeff Goldblum, a beloved son of Pittsburgh, underscores the vitality, creativity and world-class artistry that constitute our region. As cultural ambassadors of Pittsburgh both nationally and internationally, we’re excited to celebrate the airport in its modernization and look forward to the new connections it creates.”
PIT’s new, state-of-the-art terminal was built from the ground up to anticipate travelers’ needs and adapt to the local passenger. Designed to evoke the natural beauty and hardworking spirit of the region, it’s a new, welcoming front door that connects the world to Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh to the world.
The new terminal will improve the passenger experience – from a streamlined security checkpoint to a shorter baggage wait time to a revamped concessions program and more parking.
