Seeing a sunset on the airfield is a special experience usually reserved for late-night fliers, but for select Pittsburgh International Airport team members, it’s the backdrop to their workspaces.

Our first photo this week comes from Ron Welsbacher, an Airline Services team member at PIT. The sky was all orange and pink the evening he captured this stunning photo of a sunset on PIT’s airfield casting a colorful shadow over an Allegiant aircraft.

Speaking of sunsets, Allegiant flies nonstop from PIT to the Sunshine State all year long; PIT serves nonstop routes to a handful of Florida cities, including Key West, West Palm Beach and Orlando.

Before passengers make their way to Florida, they can stop by the Franco Harris statue just before the security lines in PIT’s landside terminal. Frequent Pittsburgh traveler Alicia Merlino always makes an effort to do so.

Before and after every flight, Merlino takes a photo with the iconic statue, a tradition she deems good luck.

Thanks, Ron and Alicia!
