Velkominn aftur, Icelandair!

On Thursday evening, Icelandair touched down at Pittsburgh International Airport for the first time in 2025 as the airline resumed its seasonal, nonstop service to Reykjavik, Iceland.

After landing on runway 28L, the Icelandair Boeing 737 MAX 8 taxied to Concourse C, arriving to a PIT-hosted gate party. Passengers on the first outbound flight of the season were treated to airport-branded giveaway items, Iceland flag cookies and balloons, an Iceland-themed backdrop for photos and PIT PAWS therapy dogs.

Many excited passengers were heading to Iceland – some for the first time – for Easter break, while others were transiting through Reykjavik to their final destinations, which included Ireland, the Netherlands and the U.K.

Icelandair’s resumption marks the start of its second year in Pittsburgh after it began service to Reykjavik in May 2024. Icelandair offers four weekly flights, providing a quick and convenient link from Pittsburgh to Iceland and nearly 30 markets across Europe.

Additionally, Icelandair features a unique “stopover” option, allowing connecting travelers to extend their stay in Iceland for up to a week at no extra cost before continuing to their final destinations.

Due to the route’s popularity, Icelandair moved up the resumption of its Pittsburgh-Reykjavik service to April this year.

Icelandair’s extended service, which is scheduled to run through October, enhances PIT’s connectivity to Europe, complementing British Airways’ increased schedule to London Heathrow this summer that now operates seven days a week.

In conjunction with its return to PIT, Icelandair is offering a promotional spring sale. Available until April 30, travelers can book any roundtrip between Pittsburgh and Reykjavik on Icelandair for $310 through May 20 or $499 through October 26.

Blue Sky News was on hand to capture highlights of Icelandair’s return to PIT, which can be viewed on the Flickr album linked below.
