We’ve got a little bit of a milestone celebration in this edition of Photos of the Week.

This Embraer ERJ 170-200 LR operated by Republic Airways (but flying as American Eagle) captured by Landon C. Lamielle earned its airworthiness certification from the Federal Aviation Administration in October 2013.

That means the 88-seat twinjet aircraft is celebrating its 10th birthday next month.

Like most commercial aircraft, it’s a workhorse. Just yesterday, Sept. 11, it began the day at Bangor International Airport in Maine before heading to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C.

From there, it hopped down to Hilton Head Island Airport in South Carolina before coming back up to Reagan, then shipping out to Tulsa International Airport in Oklahoma before making its way back to Reagan and ending the day just before midnight with a trip up to Bradley International Airport in Connecticut.

Whew. We got tired just writing that.

But that’s the nature of commercial aviation. People want to get places, and airlines only make money when planes are in the air. We hope this beauty gets an easy day on its birthday, but we wouldn’t bet on it.

However, all that work is rewarded with sights like this one from Luke Ferralli, who took this shot out the window of his Southwest flight as it approached Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida.

They say it’s not work if you’re doing what you love – and we love that view.

Thanks, Landon and Luke!

Our readers continue to pass along shots of unique aircraft, international airports, historical events, gorgeous views and even family vacation photos for this feature. We love them! Keep them coming—you can  click here for submission guidelines.
