Pittsburgh International Airport became a classroom this fall for nearly 80 high school students from Western Pennsylvania, opening their eyes to careers in aviation, including many that don’t require a four-year college degree.
Through the Ready for Takeoff workforce initiative with ninth graders from Sto-Rox High School and the CNX Mentorship Academy, students spent time behind the scenes at PIT’s 8,800-acre campus. That included a stop inside the Republic Airways Maintenance Hangar.
They also met with PIT team members to learn how they contribute to airport operations.
As an economic driver for the region, PIT is dedicated to creating a sustainable workforce through initiatives that include partnering with schools from the region to explore the range of careers in aviation, such as engineering, finance, environmental and communications and marketing.
