Steelers fans already investigating available flights to Ireland for later this year have at least two convenient options already in place.

The National Football League announced last week that it will play its first-ever regular season game in Dublin in 2025 with the Steelers as one of the teams. The full matchup including opposition, date and kickoff time will be announced by the NFL when the 2025 schedule is revealed this spring.

While Steelers fans await exact dates, nonstop access to Europe from Pittsburgh International Airport includes British Airways to London and Icelandair to Reykjavik. Both carriers serve Dublin and offer easy, one-stop access through their respective hubs.

“We are very excited to be the designated team in the first regular season game to be played in Ireland this upcoming season,” said Steelers’ President Art Rooney II. “The opportunity for the Pittsburgh Steelers to play in Ireland is truly special, not only because of the Rooney family history there, but also to play in front of the growing number of Steelers fans in Ireland. We are thrilled to be part of this historic event to represent Pittsburgh in a game that brings the NFL to the great sports fans in Ireland.”

The 2025 NFL Dublin game will take place at Croke Park – the largest sporting arena in Ireland.

The Rooneys have a rich history with Ireland, having family from Newry, County Down. The late Steelers Chairman Daniel M. Rooney, Art Rooney’s father, served as U.S. Ambassador to Ireland from 2009-2012 and was a co-founder of the Ireland Funds charity.

The Steelers are also one of only two NFL teams to have played a game in Ireland to date, a preseason matchup in 1997 against the Chicago Bears at Croke Park as part of the American Bowl series.

The destination game means that thousands of Steelers fans will be passing through Pittsburgh International Airport en route to cheer on the black and gold in the Emerald Isle – and perhaps extended trips.

“All of our carriers, including British Airways and Icelandair, will be ready to meet the travel demand for Steelers fans heading to Europe this fall,” said Joe Rotterdam, Director of Air Service Development at PIT. “We know Steelers fans travel better than any fan base in the league and we look forward to fans heading to Dublin to cheer on the black and gold.”
