When you think of an airport, travel is what comes to mind – probably not workforce development.

But for Alicia Booker, changing people’s lives through job training is what she focuses on daily in her role as director of workforce development at Pittsburgh International Airport.

“I’m excited about what lies ahead for the airport and what lies ahead for the region because as the airport grows and prospers, the Pittsburgh region will grow and prosper,” Booker said. “I feel very confident in saying that that we are going to be at the forefront of the work that needs to move forward.”

Booker is the driving force behind the airport’s PIT2Work program, an innovative five-week training program that immerses men and women into the trades and provides the skills to take their careers to new heights.

PIT just launched its sixth PIT2Work cohort and recently celebrated the program’s one-year anniversary. For Booker, it’s all about leveraging assets of the the airport for the betterment of the region.
