Saturday’s ceremonial ribbon cutting included dignitaries, government officials, partners, community members and friends to celebrate the near completion of the new PIT terminal.
While many of the speakers have had the opportunity to see the airport throughout construction, others saw it for the first time. Here’s what they’re saying:
Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato
“I know that there are a lot of Pittsburghers who may question why we need a ‘new’ airport when they still refer to the current airport as the ‘new’ one. The reality is that all of us deserve an airport that is designed to meet our needs while also showcasing this very region to create opportunity. This is our region’s front door – for people looking to expand their business or for people just simply returning home.”
U.S. Sen. Dave McCormick
“I believe Pennsylvania provides unique advantages that can have a positive national impact with our strong energy assets, our skilled workforce, our premier research institutions, and our entrepreneur mindset that can drive transformative outcomes like what we are seeing here today. This new terminal embodies the innovative spirit that defines western Pennsylvania and is contributing to the economic renaissance occurring within our state.”
Congressman Chris Deluzio
“Pittsburgh International Airport is not just where people catch flights: it’s also a workplace and an economic hub that connects our region with the world. This ribbon-cutting on the new and upgraded airport marks the start of an exciting new chapter for our airport, and I am proud that federal funding supported this important work.”
Congressman Mike Kelly
“Pittsburgh International Airport is a regional asset… it welcomes travelers from all over the area, including places like Butler County north to the Erie area, where I’m proud to represent in Congress. I’ve flown into and out of Pittsburgh International Airport for years, and I want to thank the men and women who keep this place running day after day.”
Congresswoman Summer Lee
“This is one of the biggest infrastructure investments our region has seen in a generation. A world-class terminal that will bring more flights, more visitors, and more business right here into Western Pennsylvania. This project means jobs today and long-term growth for tomorrow. It connects us, it employs us, and it strengthens our position as a national leader in innovation and industry. This airport was built for Pittsburgh by Pittsburgh and every part of it reflects the workers who made it possible and the people who will keep it running.”

Gov. Josh Shapiro
“Pittsburgh is on the rise – from events like the NFL Draft in 2026 to groundbreaking innovation in tech and life sciences – and the new Pittsburgh International Airport terminal is going to create even more growth and opportunity,” said Governor Josh Shapiro. “This project has created thousands of jobs and cut fuel costs for airlines, all while reducing pollution and making our communities safer and healthier. Pittsburgh’s new terminal will serve as the gateway to a region on the rise – and coupled with our historic investments in Downtown, we’re working together to deliver real results and drive progress in Western Pennsylvania for years to come.”
Lt. Gov. Austin Davis
“The people of this city are as tough and true as the steel forged in our factories and mills. Our workers are second-to-none, and this terminal is a testament to the skill and craftmanship of Pittsburgh’s tradesmen and women.”
State Sen. Devlin Robinson
“I couldn’t be prouder of the work that has been happening here. And while we often focus on the airport and airlines, flights and travel, Pittsburgh International Airport is so much more. Their innovative Neighborhood 91 campus co-locates relevant advanced manufacturing facilities in close proximity to the airport to meet the needs of aviation, providing expedited service at a lower cost and lower environmental impact, while also creating excellent family-sustaining jobs for workers throughout the Southwestern PA region.”
State Rep. Valerie Gaydos
“With this new terminal, Christina and the team hit it out of the park. The Transformed Pittsburgh Airport has become and will continue to be one of the most innovative, dynamic and high-tech airports in the country. All because of a vision that has now become a reality. I truly believe that Pittsburgh will lead and continue to lead the aviation industry not just regionally but globally.”
Allegheny County Council President Pat Catena
“When this airport opens, we will see an airport that has been built with the traveler in mind. The Transformed PIT is designed to meet the needs of all travelers – from the businessperson who travels weekly to people with sensory needs like my son to the family who is traveling with multiple children to someone who has never flown and who is anxious about the experience. This new space invites people of all abilities to travel and ACAA has worked to give them a comfortable and considered airport experience, from start to finish.”
Former Allegheny County Executive and Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission Executive Director Rich Fitzgerald
“As we cut the ribbon on a ‘new-new’ airport that finally, after three decades, is built for Pittsburghers by Pittsburghers, it’s a great day for the region. During my 12 years in office, I often talked about Pittsburgh’s secret sauce – our willingness, even desire, and ability to come together and find solutions to our greatest challenges. There is no greater example of that than this project. Every level of government has played a part in not just this new terminal, but in the airport’s resurgence.”
