Sunsets are time for contemplation. The day is ending, and nature gives us a beautiful pause to think about what has transpired and what we can look forward to when the sun returns the following day.

It only makes sense that the Sunshine State plays host to some of the best sunsets (and sunrises) in the U.S. Alex Story caught this one peeking out from a JetBlue tail at Palm Beach International Airport.

Sometimes life gives you more surprising, and less appealing, pauses. Much of the world froze last spring when we all quickly began learning the term “coronavirus.”

At the height of the pandemic, the aviation industry virtually shut down, and many airlines suddenly needed a place to park thousands of grounded airplanes. American Airlines stationed more than 100 planes here at Pittsburgh International Airport in April 2020.

Tom Trautman got an airborne view of that “pause” during a flight over our airfield. While we always love seeing airplanes at PIT, this was a moment we’re glad is long past.

Thanks, Alex and Tom!

Our readers continue to pass along shots of unique aircraft, international airports, historical events, gorgeous views and even family vacation photos for this feature. We love them! Keep them coming — you can click here for submission guidelines.
