The color blue may be synonymous with aviation, but flight allows us to experience the entire electromagnetic spectrum—the range of frequencies we perceive as color—in all its glory.

You may say it contains all the colors of the rainbow… literally.

After a recent storm here in Pittsburgh, rainbows burst forth across the region. Social media brimmed with bright images of the arcing phenomena, including rare double rainbows.

Matt Slafka was in a unique position to see one, having just landed here at PIT. From his window seat, he took a photo of the rainbow soaring over our air traffic control tower.

Cindy Johnson shared a similarly serene scene with us from her window seat on an airborne Southwest flight. The sunset lit up the sky with brilliant reds, oranges and yellows, a fitting complement to Southwest’s livery.

Thanks, Matt and Cindy!
