Less than a month after Pittsburgh International Airport’s most recent additions to its air service portfolio, airline partner Breeze Airways has announced new service to the West Coast beginning this spring.

On Tuesday, Breeze announced plans to start nonstop service from PIT to sunny San Diego beginning May 3. Flights on an Airbus A220-300 aircraft will operate on Mondays and Fridays.

Fares will start from $139 one-way if purchased by Jan. 15 for travel by Sept. 3.

This becomes Breeze’s 12th destination from PIT and second to California, after Los Angeles. The airline previously served Orange County’s Santa Ana John Wayne Airport last year before replacing the route with Los Angeles International Airport.

Breeze made PIT one of its 16 debut markets when it launched in the summer of 2021 and has shown remarkable growth since, serving destinations from coast to coast.

“San Diego is one of the U.S.’s most popular summer destinations with great food, beautiful beaches and popular family attractions,” said Breeze Airways’ President Tom Doxey. “We’re thrilled to add service to San Diego, our fifth destination in California and 46th airport served nationally.”

While the leisure appeal of San Diego is well-known—nearly 30 million people visit annually to take advantage of perpetual sunshine and gorgeous beaches—the service also supports business ties between the two cities.

After PIT went five years without nonstop service to San Diego, Breeze becomes the second airline with plans to fly the route in 2024, following Southwest’s October announcement that it will begin seasonal service there in June.

“Continuing to grow connections to the West Coast has been a top priority, and we’re glad Breeze sees the same opportunities from Pittsburgh that we do,” said Bryan Dietz, PIT’s senior vice president of Air Service & Commercial Development. “They are an important partner for us and the region, and we’re excited to see passengers take advantage of this new service.”

Breeze—which bills itself as a “Nice Low Cost Carrier,” offers passengers both bundled and a la carte options known as Nice, Nicer and Nicest. The Nicest bundle includes two checked bags, priority boarding and Breeze Ascent, its premium inflight experience featuring 2×2 recliner-style seating and complimentary snacks and beverages, including alcohol.

Additionally, Breeze is offering promotional 35 percent off base fares for all roundtrip travel from Pittsburgh through May 22. The promotion is available until Jan. 12 and includes every route in Breeze’s coast-to-coast network spanning 46 destinations in 26 states.
