Pittsburgh is getting nonstop flights to upstate South Carolina for the first time in over 20 years.
Breeze Airways announced Wednesday it is adding nonstop, seasonal service between Pittsburgh International Airport and Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) effective May 1 with introductory fares starting at $49. Breeze will operate twice weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays with Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
The outbound flight will depart from Pittsburgh at 5:44 p.m. and arrive in Greenville-Spartanburg at 7:21 p.m. The inbound will depart from Greenville/Spartanburg at 10:33 a.m. and arrive in Pittsburgh at 12:09 p.m.
Nonstop flights between Pittsburgh and Greenville-Spartanburg are for sale and can be booked at FlyBreeze.com.
PIT-GSP is a former US Airways route previously flown until November 2004 when the airline began drawing down its Pittsburgh hub. Current passenger traffic at PIT is at its highest levels in almost two decades, which has led to more service from airlines in Pittsburgh, including to some markets not served since the US Airways hub.
Greenville-Spartanburg is Breeze’s 13th destination served from Pittsburgh – now the third-most of any carrier at the airport – and the fifth nonstop market to the Carolinas from PIT which also includes Charlotte on American Airlines; Charleston, S.C. on Breeze; Myrtle Beach on Allegiant Air, Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines; and Raleigh-Durham on American and Breeze.
“We’re excited that Breeze continues to invest in the Pittsburgh market and grow their network here. This is the 13th destination Breeze is serving from Pittsburgh and adds another option for local travelers to get to the Carolinas,” said Bryan Dietz, PIT’s senior vice president of Air service and Commercial Development. “Breeze is a great partner, and we are proud to support their growth since 2021 when Pittsburgh was an original launch market.”
Greenville/Spartanburg’s launch will happen during a big ramp-up in flying by Breeze at PIT ahead of this summer with seasonal service to Norfolk/Virginia Beach, San Diego and Tampa resuming in early May. Portland, Maine, will see an additional third weekly flight when it resumes seasonal service in May and Los Angeles service will increase from twice a week to five times a week.
Breeze’s success in the Pittsburgh market has also led to a recently announced partnership with the Pittsburgh Penguins, in conjunction with PIT, that will run through the remainder of the 2024-25 NHL season. The partnership includes $50 vouchers from Breeze to military members honored by the Penguins at each home game applicable to any nonstop destination served from PIT.
“Our partners and Guests in Pittsburgh have been an incredible support to us as we’ve continued to grow over the last several years,” said David Neeleman, Breeze Airways’ founder and CEO. “With Breeze’s popular brand of comfort, convenience and affordability, we look forward to continued growth from Pittsburgh International.”
The addition of Greenville/Spartanburg at PIT comes shortly after Breeze announced its first full quarterly operating profit as an airline, achieving a 4 percent operating margin and annual revenue growth of 78 percent from 2023.
The airline has carved out a niche for adding point-to-point, low-cost service to underserved markets through its growing fleet of Airbus A220s, and now boasts a network of over 220 routes across 66 destinations nationwide. Breeze has indicated it sees up to hundreds of additional routes that could benefit from its service, even hinting at future international markets.
