Travelers at Pittsburgh International Airport hoping to fast-track enrolling in TSA PreCheck will now have the opportunity to sign up at the checkpoint.

CLEAR, an authorized Transportation Security Administration PreCheck administrator, now offers TSA PreCheck signup. CLEAR members already have identification documents verified and have their own line at airport checkpoints.

“TSA PreCheck with enrollment by CLEAR provides a fast and efficient airport experience,” said CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker. “This is a win-win for U.S. travelers who will have access to more enrollment locations, expanded hours and other benefits.”

Late last year, PIT launched a five-year agreement with CLEAR, whose biometric identification technology allows its members to proceed to the TSA checkpoint through a priority lane and without having to produce an ID. PreCheck signups will be available at CLEAR kiosks at either side of PIT’s checkpoint.

Complementary Programs

CLEAR members can’t bypass TSA screening. Unless they also have TSA PreCheck, they still must remove their shoes and belt and take laptops out of their bags.

With both TSA PreCheck and membership in CLEAR Plus, travelers do not have to remove shoes, belts and electronic equipment from bags.

Clear is one of several private companies authorized by the Department of Homeland Security to enroll or renew TSA PreCheck memberships in person. CLEAR verifies identity, while TSA PreCheck enables members to leave their shoes on and laptops in their cases.

Eligibility

Travelers 18 years or older with a valid government ID can subscribe to CLEAR Plus at a cost of $16 per month.

When flying out of an airport that is part of the CLEAR network, travelers verify their identity at a CLEAR kiosk through their eyes or fingers. No driver’s license or other form of ID is required.

A CLEAR Plus membership costs $189 per year for individuals ($189 a year for families plus $99 per person). A TSA PreCheck membership costs up to $85 for five years.

Discounted memberships are available for Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and American Express loyalty program members. Newly enrolling active military, veterans and government officials are also eligible for discounted memberships, and additional family members can be added to an existing CLEAR Plus account for $99 per adult per year.

Travelers who sign up for both Clear Plus and TSA PreCheck at the same time can get both programs for $199.95. TSA PreCheck sign-ups on the security level are open to both CLEAR and non-CLEAR members.

CLEAR Widely Available

CLEAR has nearly 19 million members nationwide. CLEAR operates in more than 50 airports and offers PreCheck in 46 airports. CLEAR can also be used for entry to many concert venues and stadiums.

The company now operates enrollment locations in several popular airports, including New York’s LaGuardia, and John F. Kennedy International, Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International, California’s Los Angeles International, and Washington Dulles International.

At Pittsburgh, PreCheck enrollment is also offered on the ticketing level Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from noon to 5 p.m.

That Enrollment Center is located inside Pittsburgh International Airport in the ticketing area across from the Southwest Airline ticketing counter. The Center is behind a wall, near the Arch art piece.
