It must have been the bowties.
Boone, a hound mix that is part of the PIT PAWS therapy dog team, was recently named the American Humane Hero Dog Award for 2021. Boone was one of seven finalists for the award and won the award at a gala event.
Boone was abused by his owner as a puppy, which resulted in the loss of his back legs. He was rescued 3½ years ago by Tanya Diable, who had him fitted for a wheelchair that helps him get around.
He hasn’t slowed down since. As a regular member of the PIT PAWS team at Pittsburgh International Airport, Boone roams the terminals greeting travelers and stopping for pictures and lots of petting.
Airport employees also can’t get enough of Boone; some even run to greet him when they see him.
Boone was featured in a special on the Hallmark Channel in October along with the other finalists. Prior to the special airing, people could vote daily to pick a winner.
On top of winning the national award, Boone was also named the American Humane Therapy Dog of 2021.
Boone was busy nuzzling a grateful traveler and could not be bothered for comment.
