In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

– “In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae (1915)

As we take a day to honor those men and women who fell across the globe while defending our nation and its values, and thank their families for their sacrifices, we’d like to express our gratitude for the freedoms protected by those brave heroes.

From solemn ceremonies held on the airfield for the dignified returns of remains of servicemen and women to honoring their families through events like the Snowball Express to a permanent display honoring the Tuskegee Airmen inside the terminal, the Allegheny County Airport Authority is proud to pay tribute to the memories of those courageous souls.
