When it comes to capturing the beauty of sunrises and sunsets, aviation does it best.

Dan Shanahan captured this beautiful photo from Concourse A of a row of United Airlines aircraft lined up and prepared for takeoff. Even for passengers exhausted early in the morning or dreading the long day ahead, the morning golden hour brightens the day with its breathtaking view and warm light.

United Airlines offers many nonstop flights from Pittsburgh International Airport to Chicago-O’Hare, Denver, Houston, Newark, San Francisco and Washington-Dulles.

Our second photo this week, taken by Mike Kritiotis, features a U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules in action.

The C-130 photographed belongs to the Air Force Reserve’s 910th Airlift Wing from Youngstown, Ohio. The C-130 aircraft, also known as the “Herk,” has a lift capacity that can airdrop loads up to 42,000 pounds.

Thanks for sharing, Dan and Mike – and a special thanks to all who serve in the Air Force.

Our readers continue to pass along shots of unique aircraft, international airports, historical events, gorgeous views and even family vacation photos for this feature. We love them! Keep them coming — you can click here for submission guidelines.
