Whether you’re watching an aircraft take off or watching the ground rush up to meet your plane as it touches down, there’s no doubt summer is the best time of year for aviation photography.

As travelers soak up the last of the summer sun, blue summer skies are serving as the perfect backdrops for their photos.

Nick Angelo snapped a photo of a Delta 757-200 aircraft just before it touched down in Atlanta. This Delta plane is easily recognizable for its classic red, white and blue exterior, but its appearance is only part of its appeal.

The 757 aircraft is popular among airlines for a reason. It’s more fuel-efficient than previous similar models, and it can make its way off the runway faster. The 757 can also fly higher than older versions, giving passengers the chance to capture photos from an even higher vantage point.

On the opposite side of the country, Kaylee Russman traveled from the Steel City all the way to the Golden Coast. We were lucky enough to get this stunning shot taken from her Southwest plane above San Diego.

Southwest’s signature colorful wing tip takes the forefront of the photo, while the ocean and afternoon sky paint the background blue. Meanwhile, the cityscape shines; if you look closely, you might even see a palm tree or two.

Thanks for sharing these summer shots, Nick and Kaylee!
