Between new dining options and new flights, Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) continues to ramp up just months ahead of the opening of its new terminal.

PIT’s newest concession, Sambazon, is part of a plethora of dining and shopping options coming to the airport over the next few months. The expanded concessions offerings reflect PIT’s commitment to enhancing the airport experience for travelers.

“This is part of the puzzle that is transforming the passenger experience,” said Bryan Dietz, senior vice president of air service and commercial development at PIT.

In the upcoming months, passengers at PIT can choose from popular nationwide chains like Jimmy John’s and Shake Shack and local offerings including Café Conmigo and Champion City Sports, which recently opened its doors.

Sambazon brings more healthy options to PIT with acai bowls and smoothies. The shop officially opened in March but rang in its place at the airport (literally) with a grand opening ceremony featuring Brazilian drummers and dancers.

In December, PIT opened its renovated Chick-fil-a restaurant with an expanded menu as part of its concessions revamp.

“Pittsburgh pioneered the air mall concept for this current facility with shops, restaurants and new passenger experiences that transformed what it meant to travel through an airport,” Dietz said. “Today it’s happening again with a new business partner, a new offer to make sure this airport is on the cutting edge of what our customers and what our passengers would like.”

Nonstop to Los Angeles

Just one day after Sambazon’s grand opening, PIT rolled out the red carpet for its newest flight. American Airlines is now flying nonstop to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) every day. This marks the first time American has provided nonstop flights to LAX since 2017, joining Breeze, which began operating on that route in 2023.

“This is a fun year because every week there’s something new, something different happening here at the airport,” said Dietz. “Whether it’s a new route, or today, a new business partner and new concession offer for all of our passengers.”
