As the number of passengers grows and diversifies, Pittsburgh International Airport continues to adapt its concession offerings to reflect local travelers’ tastes.
Bryan Dietz, Senior Vice President of Air Service and Commercial Development at PIT, said the airport hears from both new and regular travelers as well as visitors to the airport who would like to see more sit-down dining and coffee-led options, as well as specialty retail, such as sports apparel.
Passengers will see these options reflected in new food and beverage and retail establishments and reopened favorites in renovated spaces beginning in late February and through the opening of the new terminal.
The diverse lineup includes national brands and local favorites, such as Convive Coffee, a Pittsburgh-based company with four locations, that just announced that it will open its newest café at PIT (more below).
“This is just the most recent example of how we are transforming the dining and shopping experience at PIT,” Dietz said.
Chick-fil-A was the first to renovate its existing space to expand its offerings. It reopened in December and has added shakes, mac and cheese, freshly made biscuits, and other items.
Overall, the global airport retailing market is on a trajectory of growth, set to exceed $90 billion by 2033, from a projected valuation of $29.84 billion in 2023, according to a report in RetailWire.
Here’s some of what to expect over the next months:
Convive Coffee
With four locations in Western PA, Convive strives to bring each guest seasonally fresh coffees that are small-batch roasted from farmers who are passionate about innovative processing methods. Convive prioritizes building coffee teams of roasting professionals and baristas to create the perfect cup of coffee. Coming to Concourse A.
Mineo’s Pizza
Another highly anticipated opening is the iconic Pittsburgh restaurant Mineo’s Pizza House. Construction will begin this week. The family-owned business is expected to open its fourth location this spring. Coming to the Center Core.
Shake Shack
Workers are renovating the space previously occupied by McDonald’s for Shake Shack, which is expected to open this spring. Shake Shack will offer its famous ShackBurgers, shakes and other popular menu items. Coming to the Center Core.
