As Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) counts down to a new terminal, the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) continues to make improvements to the passenger experience that extend beyond the new building.
Over the past year, PIT has continued its ongoing post-security renovations, which include a redesigned airport atrium, updated restrooms, hold rooms and concessions expansions. The new PIT is designed to make the passenger experience seamless with each step of the project putting the Pittsburgh traveler at the forefront.
Because a passenger’s journey begins before even entering the airport campus, the team at PIT has taken steps to make each part of the airport experience more welcoming with a new website featuring an improved, user-friendly digital experience that reflects the airport’s commitment to universal access and customer service.
“Our new website is more than just a facelift–it’s a reflection of how we’re reimagining the travel experience,” said ACAA CEO Christina Cassotis. “From clearer wayfinding to faster load times, every detail was designed with the passenger in mind.”
The new website incorporates intuitive navigation and improved functionality for seamless use on every device. Designed for simplicity and functionality, the site makes it easier than ever for passengers to find flight information, parking details, terminal maps, dining options and airport services.
The site also provides quick access to key traveler resources including TSA information, checkpoint wait times and a list of airlines and PIT’s accessibility services. The interactive map also has been updated to make wayfinding easier than ever–a key step in helping passengers navigate the new terminal when it opens in 2025.
Eagle-eyed website visitors may notice another new aspect of the reimagined website: Everything is black and gold. Pittsburgh is the only city in the country where all professional sports teams sport the same colors, so why shouldn’t its airport match that spirit?
The new ACAA brand incorporates the classic black and gold to pay homage to Pittsburgh, a city powered by innovation, and embody PIT’s momentum and ongoing evolution.
“Our new brand reflects who we are today: an ambitious, forward-thinking organization that serves the people of Western Pennsylvania while positioning our airports and our region for a bold future,” Cassotis said.
A Transformed Airport for a Region on the Rise
By the end of 2025, Pittsburgh will have an airport designed to reflect, connect and serve its community. As the region continues to build on its success with major developments in numerous industries, it’s key that its airport embraces modernization that caters to the needs of all Pittsburghers and visitors.
“For the last 10 years, our team has driven a massive transformation of facilities, operations and culture, all of which can be seen in our new terminal,” said Cassotis. “The Pittsburgh region has also undergone a transformation over that same time, with increased visibility across the globe.”
ACAA announced the date of its opening gala, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 3, 2025. While it’s the first announcement, the gala won’t be the first new terminal event, but one of many planned leading up to the opening. The airport opening day remains to be set, as it’s dependent on numerous factors.
