Record nationwide air travel and continued strong demand in the region contributed to Pittsburgh International Airport’s busiest month in nearly two decades.
More than 970,000 passengers traveled through PIT in June, the highest monthly travel in and out of the airport since July 2005, when it recorded more than 1.02 million passengers. It was the highest passenger total in a single month since PIT’s waning days as a hub for US Airways.
June also was PIT’s largest monthly increase over pre-pandemic traffic levels with nearly 70,000 additional passengers than during the same period in 2019.
Airlines scheduled more than 1.2 million seats at PIT in June, the most of any month since May 2007. Carriers operated more than 170,000 additional seats at the airport last month than in the pre-pandemic month of June 2019.
Year-over-year, total passengers at PIT rose nearly 14 percent from June 2023 and airline capacity grew 21.5 percent. Year-to-date, more than 4.7 million travelers have passed through PIT, 9 percent ahead of last year’s pace and 1.3 percent above pre-pandemic levels.
