When Pittsburgh International Airport’s new terminal opens, drivers navigating to and from the airport will experience a transformed and user-friendly experience.
Travelers will continue to use the same highway exits they currently do to access PIT’s new roadway system, which includes clear signage to guide passengers, whether they are departing from Pittsburgh or picking up arriving guests.
The new parking garage brings departing passengers within walking distance of the terminal and features modern space-finder technology, with 3,800 new public parking spaces.
Those parking in the new garage will have access to a fully covered walkway that heads to the terminal via the Customer Service Building, which is also home to rental car counters.
Travelers can also opt to park in new surface parking lots within walking distance of the terminal.
In total, PIT is adding over 6,000 new parking spaces.
The existing parking lots at PIT will remain in use, with a larger, modernized shuttle bus fleet providing fast, comfortable and efficient service to and from the terminal.
The new terminal and front bridge are separated into three levels:
- The top level is for departing passengers, where friends and family can drop off travelers and where airport shuttles from the existing parking lots will bring travelers directly to the doors, ensuring a seamless experience from parking to check-in.
- The middle level of the terminal is for arriving passengers to be picked up by friends, family and colleagues, because Pittsburghers willingly make the drive to the airport to meet and greet.
- The ground level features access to taxis, rideshare services and regional transit.
Elevators and escalators within the building provide access between floors, allowing passengers to easily navigate to any level.
Special escalators, named the North Incline and South Incline, pay homage to Pittsburgh’s beloved inclines. They offer express service between the top level and ground level of the new terminal.
When passengers are ready to leave the airport campus, clear signage guides them onto the roadway system and toward the same highway entrances used today.
